Summertime Home Teams

Body:

Reaching our world through

HOME TEAMS

Westside Baptist Church exists to glorify God by winning the lost and growing the saved. Our evangelistic strategy has many points of contact, but all of them depend upon God’s people simply loving Him, loving others, and being obedient. Everything we do is to bring Christ glory and further His Kingdom. This summer, we are stepping out of our comfort zone again in order to remain faithful to our calling and reach our friends for Christ. Beginning Sunday evening, June 14, some of our members will be meeting together as "Home Teams."

Home Teams are small groups of Westside Members, who invite their unchurched friends to gather at one of their homes during the summer for a casual and enjoyable evening. In a friendly, informal atmosphere, these groups will enjoy time together where their goal will be to introduce their friends to Christ and lead them to become active followers of Christ at Westside. Within these parameters, each Home Team will have the freedom to determine the time of their Sunday evening meeting as well as what they do and what snacks or food they enjoy. Remember, Home Teams are made up of real people, having a really good time together while they work to build relationships that result in real followers of Christ.

Home Teams really began at Westside many years ago. At three o’clock in the afternoon on March 5, 1961 a group of 21 adults and three children from Southside Baptist Church met to organize a mission church on the Westside of Sumter. The following week, they held their first service in a home on Laurens Street that Southside had purchased. Eventually, the small group out grew the home and purchased three acres of land on Pinewood Road. Since that time, God has blessed His peoples’ obedience with continued growth.

From the beginning, Westside Baptist Church has held firm to the inerrant, inspired, and infallible word of God. The Great Commandment and the Great Commission have been our theme for nearly 50 years and will continue to be so until Jesus comes. Unfortunately, we are as prone to slipping into complacency and resting on tradition as much as any of God’s people. Therefore, we are constantly reminded that “faith without works is dead” (Jas. 2:20, 26).

If our neighbors, as well as our world, are to be won to Christ, we must get back to the basics of prayer and intentionally building relationships and sharing the Gospel. The Great Commission was never intended solely for evangelists, pastors, and missionaries – but every follower of Christ!

The early church began and grew in people’s homes (Acts 5:42; 20:20; Ro. 16:3-5; Col. 4:12). Around the world today churches are multiplying through small groups who turn their homes into “lighthouses” for Christ.

If you and your family would like to turn your home into a “lighthouse” and host a Home Team, or if you want to be a part of a Home Team this summer, please contact the church office and request more information. Someone will reply to you with the latest details. This could be a summer you and your friends remember forever!
